I'm making Mandel Bread today, which, in Yiddish literally means twice- baked almond bread. It's made by forming dough into a loaf, baking it, slicing the loaf into oblong cookies and baking again. Apparently these crunchy cookies were popular in Eastern Europe among Jews and merchants as a staple dessert that kept well. Mom's recipe, as I imagine most, is extremely easy to follow and only allows for 30 minutes baking time. Homemade Challah in a Bag
Maybe it's because my kids are on spring break that this recipe for homemade Challah piqued my interest. Seriously. Can one make homemade Challah in a bag? It's the lazy person's way to make Challah and I LOVE IT. Potato Latkes
While I like to say Hanukkah is my kids’ favorite Jewish holiday, I’ve never really admitted it’s mine too. I truly enjoy turning out the lights after dinner to light the candles of the menorah and to sing the festive holiday songs. Not surprisingly, my kids adore the holiday for the gift-giving.
