Sauteéd Shrimp and Soba Noodles

Yesterday I worked on a recipe containing 4 ingredients I've never used before:  soba noodles, chilli oil, sesame oil, and rice vinegar.  They may seem pedestrian to you but, they were new to me! Even though I have been trying to cook new recipes at least 3-4 times per week for the past 2 years, I still don't mind when I'm directionally clueless while seeking out items in the super market; it usually turns me on to other new ingredients.  I had no sense where I'd find the oils as they weren't stocked alongside the regular canola, vegetable, … [Read more...]

Flounder Picatta

I've taken at least two weeks off from cooking.  Between the end of school year activities, send off to sleep away camp, a trip to LA  and an unexpected surgery, my kitchen has not been used other than to heat pre-made food or to enjoy some carry out. Ever breaded a chicken cutlet before?  That’s essentially what you do to your chicken breasts but, instead of coating them with breadcrumbs, you’re covering them with ground pistachio nuts. Whole Pistachios Crushed Pistachios The … [Read more...]

July 4th Recipes

I can't remember the last 4th of July  where I didn't go to a BBQ or watch fireworks somewhere. When I went to sleep away camp, there were always some sort of red, white, and blue festivities with equally pleasing patriotic cookies coupled with red, white and blue bug juice. Since then, I've always tried to be patriotic on the festive day.  Before I really got jazzed about cooking, this simply meant buying American flags for my kids to wave around. However, now that my pantry is actually stocked, it's fun to show our true colors and … [Read more...]
