Gone are the days of leisurely thumbing through tome-sized cooked books in search for that perfect recipe.
Sadly, it seems like cookbooks are becoming relics used more often as coffee table books or as decorative pieces that simply adorn our kitchen shelves (although, I’m in the minority and still love to go through my cookbook faves: Homemade with Love, Silver Palate Cookbook and Small Plates Sweet Treats) .
As our lives become increasingly fast-paced and pressure-filled- with multi-tasking becoming the norm- many people are constantly feeling pressed for time.
Let’s face it, “pressed for time” does not provide any encouragement for those seeking to make homemade meals.
That’s where the food/cooking app revolution has stepped in to help support our on-the-go lifestyles and take the heightened stress levels out of cooking (folks, this includes meal planning, grocery shopping and step-by-step videos).
Now there’s literally an app for everything!
My mom used to sit at home and casually leaf ear through her trusted cookbooks for meal inspiration. I now find myself searching for meal ideas anywhere: sitting on a plane, squished on a bus, in line at the bank. And, at the same time I’m also sorting out my grocery lists and even purchasing these items with the mere swipe of my fingers on a tiny phone screen.
While there are myriad food/cooking apps designed for the most novice to the most experienced cooks, here’s a list highlighting just a few of my cooking app must-haves*:

The health benefits of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables outweigh the risks of pesticide exposure. Use EWG’s Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides™ to reduce your exposures as much as possible, but eating conventionally-grown produce is far better than not eating fruits and vegetables at all. The Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce™ will help you determine which fruits and vegetables have the most pesticide residues and are the most important to buy organic. You can lower your pesticide intake by avoiding the 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables and choosing the least contaminated produce.

Thanks for the great food and cooking apps, Sharib. I think I might check out Big Oven or Meal Snap when I get home from my shift at DISH later tonight. You may not think that my favorite app is good for cooking, but I have been using DISH Anywhere a lot. It streams live and recorded TV to my tablet, so I have been taking it out back so I can grill along with my favorite chefs like Bobby Flay.
Hunter » sounds awesome!!! i will try that.
